Andy and Diana Shand started the business together in 1987.
Andy - has three children (two Australians) and six grandchildren. After leaving school he worked on farms
in the North and South Islands and completed diplomas at Lincoln College. He then spent a season as a shearing
contractor in England and on returning to New Zealand worked for the Valuation Department for a period before
taking over the family farm in the Kaikoura district. After farming for seventeen years the farm was sold and
he completed an accounting degree at university and bought the accounting practice of McKellar McCallum and Co
in 1987. He is still practising as a chartered accountant from the same office as Fair City Finance. For hobbies
he plays golf (badly), tennis (better) and bridge. He spent nine years as a councillor on the Kaikoura County
Council and some years on the Trust Board and various committees of Anglican Care, which includes Christchurch
City Mission, various rest homes such as Bishops Park and Fitzgerald House.
Diana - has three children and seven grandchildren. After leaving school she worked in a share broker's office
in Australia for a period, lived and worked in England for two years and spent twenty years helping her then
husband run a farm on Banks Peninsular. She plays golf and tennis and until recently was on the trust board of
the Home-Made Partnership Trust, better known as "Supergrans"
Chris – Loans Manager
Has been with Fair City Finance for 12 years. After training as a paediatric nurse Chris worked for fifteen years
in Luxembourg, Italy and the UK in hospitals, some private homes and for a period in Harrods in charge of their
cosmetic sales. On returning to NZ she ran her own importing business for some years and for a period owned a
restaurant. She has one son now living in Australia and enjoys tennis and gardening for relaxation.
Gay – Loans Officer & Receptionist
Born in Nightcaps, Southland she was educated in Invercargill and after coming to Christchurch worked in a share
registry office for 16 years. Gay has two Australian children and five grandchildren. She is an avid follower of
sport be it Golf, Rugby, Netball, Tennis, - if it moves Gay will have seen it. She plays golf and enjoys gardening
and Sudoku for her own relaxation.
